Become Method

From understanding
to practice

Knowledge alone does not change your life. Change begins when we recognise what we want to change, connect it with our own experience, understand the patterns that shape us, and turn what we have learned into practical action.

Explore the five steps
From an idea to everyday practice

The Become Method is a framework for that process.

It connects reflection, personal experience and everyday action through five interconnected steps:

Recognise – Experience – Understand – Apply – Become

The aim is not simply to collect more information, but to turn it into something we can understand, try out, repeat and gradually make part of our lives.

Cycle: Recognise → Experience → Understand → Apply → Become → Recognise.
Five connected steps. A cycle to return to.

01Recognise

Change begins with clear recognition

The first step is not to find a solution straight away. The first step is to see clearly what is actually happening.

Pause and pay attention to what you want to change, improve or understand better.

It might be a habit you repeat, a decision you keep postponing, the way you react, a goal you are not moving towards, or an area of your life where you feel you could do things differently.

At this stage, we are not looking for someone to blame or drawing conclusions. We are observing.

Questions that may help:

  • What do I want to change?
  • What is not giving me the result I want right now?
  • Which situation keeps repeating itself?
  • What do I notice about myself?

When we recognise something clearly, it stops being a vague feeling and becomes a starting point for change.

02Experience

Connect the idea with your own experience

Information becomes meaningful when we can connect it with our own lives.

That is why the Become Method goes beyond explaining concepts. The next step is to find what we are learning about in our own experience.

Recall a specific situation. A conversation. A decision. A reaction. A success or a mistake.

Try to notice what you were thinking, how you reacted and what happened afterwards.

Instead of the abstract statement:

“People often put off important things.”

the question becomes:

“When do I put off what matters to me?”

At that moment, learning stops being someone else's story and starts to speak to our own lives.

03Understand

Discover what lies behind your behaviour and choices

Once we recognise a situation and connect it with our own experience, we can go a step deeper.

Why does something keep happening?

What pattern lies behind it?

Which assumptions, habits, circumstances or earlier decisions influence what we do today?

Understanding does not mean making excuses. It means building a clearer picture.

At this stage, we connect:

  • cause and effect,
  • decision and outcome,
  • habit and behaviour,
  • expectation and actual experience.

Instead of asking:

“Why isn't this working for me?”

we can ask:

“What exactly is happening, and what can I learn from it?”

When we understand a pattern, we gain the ability to change it consciously.

04Apply

Turn understanding into a concrete step

This is where knowledge becomes practice.

There is no need to change everything at once.

What matters is finding one clear step we can take today.

If we are learning about time management, a practical step might be writing down three priorities for the next day.

If we are learning about communication, a step might be listening to the other person first in our next important conversation.

If we are learning about finances, a step might be recording all our expenses for one week.

If we are learning about habits, we can connect a new activity with an existing routine.

A useful question at this stage is:

“What specifically can I do differently?”

That is why the Become Method does not end with inspiration.

Every useful idea needs to find its way into real life.

05Become

From a single action to a way of life

One decision can begin a change, but consistency is what builds it.

That is why the final step of the Become Method is not “finish”.

It is:

Become.

Return to practice.

Repeat what works.

Adjust what is not giving you results.

Observe the changes.

Keep going.

Over time, what we initially had to apply consciously can become part of our usual way of thinking and behaving.

We no longer just say:

“I know I should be organised.”

We begin to live in a more organised way.

We do not just say:

“I know I should communicate differently.”

We begin to have different conversations.

That is where the real difference between information and transformation emerges.

Become Method in one sentence

Recognise what you want to change. Experience the idea through your own life. Understand the pattern. Apply a concrete step. Repeat until the change becomes part of you.

Recognise → Experience → Understand → Apply → Become

The Become Method is not intended to be a process we go through only once.

It is a cycle we can return to whenever we learn something new, try to change a habit, solve a problem or want to take the next step.

Because the aim of learning is not simply to know more.

It is to understand, apply and live what we learn.
